Genoa, Italy

Genoa - capital city of Liguria, historic maritime power player, birthplace of Christopher Columbus, origin of oily but addictive pesto. With so many claims to fame, there were plenty of reasons for our visit. However, the real purpose was practical in nature - we needed a launch-pad for travels down the Cinque Terre coast (see separate blog post). But it did not play second fiddle to some pretty coastal scenery. We had a great time over two days exploring the harbour, Old Town (one of the largest in Europe) and eating great local foods.
