Lists

A. Our UNESCO List

On occasions we are asked 'how' we select the cities and countries we have visited over the past 5 years of travel. Two sources spring to mind:

1. The list of travel destinations from friends, family and social media feeds.
The reality is that you pick somewhere to visit because you have read or heard that it was an amazing experience and you don't want to miss out.

2. The UNESCO World Heritage List. UNESCO, an agency of the United Nations is dedicated to encouraging international cooperation in the conservation of our world's cultural and natural heritage. The World Heritage List is often our starting point and inspiration for things to see, as per the quote on the website:

Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration.

B. 'Must Do' List

Every travel blogger that has been bitten by the bug that spreads the infectious symptoms of wanderlust has a list of travel destinations in their back pocket. The list that gets memorized for dinner party conversations after the 'name your favourite country' question. Where would we travel to next if money was no option and we decided to quit our corporate careers?

Many places come to mind...but here are some at the top of the list:

1. Trek the Himalayas, see Mt Everest - Base Camp vs Annapurna Circuit, still deciding
2. Dive in the Galapagos Islands - We visited Ecuador but missed out on seeing this site
3. Climb Mount Kilimanjaro - And a safari in the Ngorongoro Crater since we are in the area
4. Visit Antarctica - No list is complete without a trip to the 7th continent
5. Cairo and the Pyramids - This ancient wonder is a must-do
6. Great Wall of China - Mei visited it in 2000, but it doesn't count until we both have
7. Paricutin Volcano, Mexico - Along with No.1, completes the 7 natural wonders list
8. Chichen Itza, Mexico - To complete the 7 new wonders of the world list
9. Taj Mahal - To complete the 7 new wonders of the world list
10. Dive with Whale Sharks - Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia
