Photo Blog of our trip to Huasquila Amazon Lodge, Ecuador.
Duration: 2 nights
Private transfer from Quito to Huasquila. Our driver picked us up in the morning for a 3.5hr drive to the lodge situated at the edge of the Amazon. The roads were very winding and in were damaged in some parts due to floods and rock debris falling from the side of the mountain.
The tour involved visiting a local village and learning about their culture. We had a local guide who walked with us from the lodge to the village and acted as our translator. We learned about traditional foods they ate (“Yuka” – tasted like potatoes) and a traditional drink (“Chi-Cha”). Chi-Cha is drink which is fermented over several days. During celebratory occasions (i.e. weddings), the drink is ferment for up to 10 days to increase the alcohol content. We also received a welcome dance from the children and a traditional performance from the women.
