This rare moment of sunshine was an excuse to take a day trip out of London and we headed north to the university city of Cambridge.
The train journey from London King's Cross station took a while due to delays caused by engineering works but very soon after we had arrived in the heart of the city with its sandstone buildings and groups of students carrying luggage and trying to work out the location of their colleges.
Enjoying the parkland
The city is quite pretty, filled with little lane-ways and lots of 'common' parklands. Although the weather was perfect and we considered a bike ride and even a punt down the river, we decided instead to just laze about in the sunshine on our picnic blanket, as the filling ostrich burger from the market and pint of cider from the pub had killed our enthusiasm for doing anything active.

The Sunday that we visited Cambridge also coincided with the British Grand Prix. The weather was a complete turnaround in comparison to the mud and flooding from our visit the previous year. We found a pub - The Pickerel (one of the oldest in Cambridge, dating back to the 1600s), that showed the race live and we spent most of the afternoon there supporting Mark Webber and the Red Bull team.
